Grizzly Bagels were expanding their offering from a bagel-only stall to a much bigger premises offering a wider range of baked goods. The new premises, a 1950’s style block building, is situated in the heart of a working class industrial community.
Capturing the connection between baker/maker and his local customer base through the use of imperfection and craft. We created an original typeface – Grizzly Industrial Sans – based off the hand painted 40’s and 50’ signage of our clients local flour mill.
We took cues from old bread tokens – used in the lower South Island during war time to ration bread – and create a limited edition set of brass tokens used by the local community to complete the brand.
