Dominic Maxwell is a master winemaker for an established International Wine brand - Thomas Wines in Canterbury. He came to us with a secret - a wine in a limited edition - 160 bottles only of each of his three varieties.
The Waipara Valley is covered with sheep, goats, tussock and hidden nooks and crannies of the North Canterbury Hills - from this we devised the wine’s own secret. We created a fictional family of human creatures living in the hills, foraging for food and existence handing down their secret wine - Forager. We wanted these to feel like beings that were amongst us yet outcasts, pure yet murderous having lived for years in the hills slowly evolving into foraging animals. The pen illustrations mixed victorian sensibilities with animal features - they've evolved into a mysterious unit that embodied the characteristics of the wine. Three variatels were made with a Father, Mother and a Troublesome son - they each own their own wine. The wine bottles were complimented by limited edition posters and tasting notebooks.
