New Zealand Cricket were using outdated resources from the early 80's with large folders, and cumbersome photographs to promote cricket skills for Sports teachers within schools. The images and tone didnt reflect male, female or a good cultural mix. The folders were also hard for teachers to use and reference in setting up cricket drills for kids. With the aim being to eventually move everything to the digital world with online guides and animations, we created a character set with enough form to show different actions but also be simple enough when it came time to creating animations. The base characters could be swivelled and rotated at 4 points to give a combination of over 2000 poses. This future proofed the project for the next stage of full animation in a vector setting. After talking with teachers we also realised that folders and large books didnt work with teaching so we turned the information into a set of colour coded A6 cards split into 4 sections for each age group.
